Watercolour

Watercolour is my frequent choice, helping me add life and atmosphere to my sketches. It is effortless, quick, and allows emotions to flow freely.

Pen Sketch

I usually sketch architecture, cities, and people. Artline 0.4 and 0.6 are my favourite pens. I also collect sketchbooks, and after I travel, I make sure to sketch at least one favourite view.

Provide a short description of the gallery, highlighting key things.

Malaysian Beaches

Villages with ocean and beach views always have a natural and breathtaking composition of art, making them beautiful to record, especially during slow mornings. I often observe that those who live in these places are rarely rushing.

Pavilion Bukit Bintang

Humans make cities livable and presentable.

Wood Carving Motifs

I documented many wood carving motifs, mostly found in Masjid Lama Tanjung Beringin, Seri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan. Sketching these motifs feels like drawing calligraphy, it softens the hand gesture and teaches perseverance and attention to detail.

Malay Cultural Landscape Studies

Expressions of the Malay cultural landscape are often derived from classical texts such as Hikayat Hang Tuah and Sejarah Melayu.

Art

Bakat Muda Sezaman 2023

It takes courage to try new things. I truly appreciate the moments and the learning process while joining this competition, which was entirely alien to me.

Final Year Project (Malay Landscape)

The chosen site was Istana Lama Seri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan. I aimed to reconnect the palace with the Malay cultural landscape and the lifestyles of past communities. The project was completed entirely through manual sketching and painting. I used canvas for perspective drawings.

Bachelor Projects

Semester 6 (Urban Design)

At Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, I focused on revitalising the open field, introducing nature-based activities that make the space more vibrant and inviting. For the graphics, I referred to an international artist who highlights trees using green markers. I found it interesting and wanted to try the technique myself.

Semester 5 (Site Planning)

The site was located at Taman Sri Serdang, Selangor, near Universiti Putra Malaysia. This was my first time working on a larger-scale landscape design. A bigger scale doesn’t mean designing every space, it is about identifying specific areas where you can improve accessibility and make a meaningful impact on the town.

Semester 4 (Landscape Planning)

I enjoyed developing ideas through bubble diagrams this semester, and using striking colours such as red, blue, and yellow. Kuyoh River, lacated in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, was filled with scattered farming, rubbish, and unmaintained plants. Through revitalisation with thoughtful landscape design interventions, the area could enhance the wellbeing of nearby residents.

Semester 3 (Park)

The semester was divided into two projects: Ecuador Park at Bukit Jalil and the newly opened Taiping Botanical Park in Perak. I enjoyed using markers, as they saved time and allowed me to work more freely. This semester taught me to be confident and sketchy, there’s no need to focus on perfection.

Semester 2 (Basic Design)

This was my first time designing a proper landscape park, and I found it very exciting. The site was at our faculty and relatively small, so I experimented with levels to enhance the experience and proposed a free-flowing circulation throughout the park.

The hardest part of sketching is getting started and letting go of perfection. Sketching is about ideas and expression, not being “right.” Sometimes it’s funny to look back at old drawings, but they show how we learn and improve. The key is to keep practising.
